About RoofingWala

Independent roofing journalism for American homeowners — written by people who are not trying to sell you a roof.

What RoofingWala is

RoofingWala is an independent publication about residential roofing in the United States. We cover the decisions homeowners actually face: whether a leak needs a repair or a replacement, what a new roof costs in your region, which materials earn their price premium, and how to tell a competent roofing contractor from an expensive one.

Why we started it

Search for almost any roofing question and the top results are published by companies that sell roofs. That is not automatically dishonest, but it shapes the answer. Cost ranges get vague. Material comparisons quietly favour whatever the publisher installs. The “free inspection” turns out to be the product.

We wanted a resource that reads like advice from a knowledgeable neighbour rather than a lead-generation funnel — one that names real numbers, admits when the honest answer is “get three quotes”, and tells you which questions make a bad contractor uncomfortable.

How we approach our guides

  • Numbers over adjectives. Where we can give a cost range, a lifespan in years, or a wind rating, we do — along with what makes a project land at the high or low end of that range.
  • Regional reality. Roofing in Phoenix is not roofing in Buffalo. Climate, code and labour rates change the answer, and we say so.
  • Plain language. Squares, decking, underlayment, ice-and-water shield, drip edge — we define the jargon the first time it appears, because contractors rarely will.
  • Updated, not abandoned. Pricing and code guidance goes stale fast. Articles carry a published date and get revisited.

How we make money

RoofingWala is supported by advertising displayed on this site. Advertising revenue keeps our guides free to read. Advertisers do not review, approve, or influence our editorial content, and an ad appearing next to an article is not an endorsement of that advertiser by us.

Where an article contains an affiliate link, we say so within that article. See our Disclaimer for the full statement.

An important limit on what we do

We publish general educational information. We are not your roofing contractor, structural engineer, insurance adjuster, or attorney, and we cannot inspect your roof from here. Anything structural, anything involving active water intrusion, and anything you would climb a ladder to check should involve a licensed professional in your state.
